Website accessibility to WCAG 2.1 AA.

Since 28 June 2025 the Latvian Accessibility of Goods and Services Law has been in force, and it also covers online stores. We check your site against the WCAG 2.1 AA criteria and fix what we find in the code itself.

Who it applies to

Who must be accessible.

A simplified overview, not legal advice. Check your own case with a lawyer or with PTAC.

  • Online stores selling to consumers
  • Passenger transport websites and tickets
  • Banking and financial services for consumers
  • E-books and digital content sales

Does not apply

  • Microenterprises: fewer than 10 employees and up to 2 million € a year
  • A brochure site with nothing to buy
  • A B2B store that does not sell to consumers
  • An archive not updated after 28.06.2025
Audit

How the audit works.

Automated tools such as Lighthouse and axe find only part of the issues. That is why we also go through the purchase path with a keyboard and a screen reader.

  1. Step 1

    Automated check

Lighthouse and axe for every page template: home, category, product, cart and checkout.

  2. Step 2

    Manual check

A purchase using only the keyboard and a screen reader, the way someone who cannot see the screen would do it.

  3. Step 3

    List of findings

For each finding: the WCAG criterion, where it is on the site and the amount of work.

  4. Step 4

    Fixes and re-check

We fix it ourselves or give the list to your developer. After the fixes we check again.

What we check

Six areas we check.

In a 2026 PTAC survey only 19% of residents said they know well what digital accessibility is, while 86% think online stores should be accessible.

What accessibility costs.

The amount of fixing depends on the theme and plugins, so you get an exact estimate after the audit. For sites we build, a basic check is part of development.

FAQ

Questions about accessibility.

Did not find yours? Write to us and we will reply within the same working day.

If you sell to consumers and you are not a microenterprise, most likely yes. A microenterprise has fewer than 10 employees and an annual turnover or balance sheet of up to 2 million euros. Check your own case with a lawyer or the Consumer Rights Protection Centre (PTAC).

No. A widget changes how the page looks, not its code. Buttons still have no names, and if the cart cannot be reached with a keyboard, the widget does not change that.

International web accessibility criteria: 50 requirements at levels A and AA. The European standard EN 301 549, which the accessibility requirements rely on, uses exactly these criteria for websites.

For a typical online store about 5 working days from receiving access. The timeline for fixes goes into the quote.

The consumer first contacts the store. If the issue is not fixed, they can file a complaint with the Consumer Rights Protection Centre, which supervises compliance with this law.

We fix WordPress and WooCommerce sites fully in the code. On Shopify and Wix Studio the platform limits some settings, and we point this out in the report.
